"Traditionally Padthaway was recognised as a grape growing area only with no wine making facility."

Traditionally Padthaway was recognised as a grape growing area only with no wine making facility. Grapes produced were transported from the region to nearby Coonawarra and other wineries managed by the larger wine companies.

PADTHAWAY'S NEWEST WINE MAKING FACILITY

The LCW facility marks the gateway to the Limestone Coast in South Australia. Built in 1998 and branded Stonehaven, the winery soon won acclaim as ‘International Winery of the Year’ in 2001.  Stonehaven had a proud history and tradition of producing award winning wines, collecting almost 1,000 International or Australian medals or awards over the past decade.

LCW is a 12,000 tonne winery featuring state of the art processing equipment with the latest computer systems ensuring every stage of the winemaker’s craft is managed with a precision previously unknown. At any one time the holding capacity of the facility is 12 million liters of wine. Plus there is room for an additional 11,000 barrels in our temperature controlled barrel shed. Surrounding the winery grow 36 ha of vineyards on famous Padthaway Limestone.

LCW sources fruit from the six flagship regions of the Limestone Coast including the cool climate Coonawarra, Padthaway and Mount Benson (famous for supplying fruit for Penfolds Grange), providing a wide range of varieties and the best from each terroir. The area is renowned for outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay varietals.

The LCW business model is to be an innovative full service independent processor and service provider to growers, other wine producers, retail and wholesale buyers. Although LCW is known for premium wines it also has price flexibility from being able to source the right fruit from other warmer climate regions, allowing our customers to take advantage of entry‐level wines and prices.
